I bought this game on gog.com after already owning it on Steam, hoping the farcry2.exe would be up to date. Sure enough it wasn't, so I tried to download the patch from Ubisoft's website. The patching fails the same way as with the Steam version, saying 'Could not retrieve version number.

Installation will be aborted.' I've tried my best to screw around with different methods of installing the patch, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but have met with no luck. I just want to patch the game to either version 1.0.2 or 1.0.3 from 1.0.1 so that I can play using an Eyefinity setup because those resolutions weren't supported by the game until later versions. Has anyone encountered this issue and/or found a way to get the patch to install?

Korell: Have you tried using your Eyefinity setup with the native GOG installation of the game? GOG release games with the latest available official patches already applied, though I don't own this game on GOG so cannot confirm that this is the case for this game, but it is the Fortune's Edition. Yes, despite the file version of farycry2.exe being listed as 1.0.1, I booted the game and confirmed that I was unable to select Eyefinity resolutions. Also, as in the Steam version that I own, the benchmark tool is the newest version and will boot the benchmarks with Eyefinity resolutions. I had hoped that GOG would have kept this up to date like their site says, or at the very least the DRM free portion of the purchase would allow me to run the patch but this isn't the case. If this matches the Steam installation then I'd say that GOG have been given the latest digital distribution version by Ubisoft, so it is likely an issue with what Ubisoft have provided to both Steam and GOG. In any case, raise a support ticket to GOG with all the details and maybe search the Ubisoft and Steam forums to see if anyone has any workarounds.
